A carpet and tapestry in Blue Stone of Belgium

Un tappeto e un arazzo in Pietra Blu del Belgio

Moved from London to Amsterdam Zuidas, the financial district south of the historic city, following Brexit, the new headquarters of EMA (European Medicines Agency) was built only 18 months from the signing of the contract in March 2018.
For all the stone elements, the Blue Stone of Belgium was chosen.
This material is characterized by the almost satin tone that enhances the compact and homogeneous structure and complements the walking surface, giving the illusion of walking across a grey carpet.
But it is in the lobby where the Blue Stone of Belgium literally “climbs” the vertical garden designed by OKRA, resulting in a decidedly spectacular effect.
Here, as if inside a cave, the slabs run up the summit alongside the natural green, linking the plant and mineral world.
This background is perceived from the workstations on the building’s various floors, similar to a large tapestry.
